Last week the Fiat Punto Club of Hungary held their annual big meeting in Kaposvár and its picturesque surrounding areas. The Punto Club was actually formed in Kaposvár three years ago and has ever since experienced rapid growth. Nowadays the club has more than 600 members spread all over the country.

The founders organize a major meeting every summer, each year choosing a different town in Hungary. Last week fans of Punto met for third time. As this gathering was truly national the Punto Club organized a common drive open to all participants from Budapest to Kaposvár. Each time the convoy arrived at the designated meeting points more and more Puntos joined to the line-up. The train eventually consisted of more than fifty Puntos by the time it arrived in Kaposvár, but amongst these little cars could be recognised a smattering of other Italian cars.

As the caravan drove along the delightful surroundings of the stunning Lake Balaton, and well before we reached our destination for the day, we had lost our way! However, a Punto quickly sprang into view and so we followed it 'home'. So we carried out the orientation trial (organized for the second day) on the first day, and luckily of course we didn’t miss the lunch stop!

After a pleasant lunch the column of Puntos, including examples from the very earliest Series I to the new Grande Punto, drove all together to Kaposújlak Airport, when the real programme of the day got underway. All of the cars were formed up into a line and the guests began to fill in the voting papers for the “Punto Beauty-Contest”. Of course there were different categories for the Punto I, Punto II and Grande Punto, and organisers also made differentiations between cars in original and tuned specification. Meanwhile - commanded by the organisers - the owners began to position the cars for air-photographs. Members of the club laid out the word PUNTO using by their cars to form the letters, and as it clearly visible on the aerial photo this task was successful. The programme then continued with the skill trial. Fortunately the weather was sunny although a bit windy, but wasn’t raining which was good for the race. Using the runway the organizers started the speed-trial.

After it was completed, the convoy had moved to the University of Kaposvár, for the prize-giving ceremony. Then the party had started. Next day the orientation trial in Kaposvár was planned, but instead the guests voted for a common driving convoy around the city. This trip was over than 150 kilometres and we admired the beautiful knolls of the sub-region, called Külső-Somogy. Thanks must be proffered for the invitation, we had an enjoyable time, and we are looking forward to next gathering in 2007.
